No, I am not the author, Steve Thayer. Well, actually, yes, I am the author of this Web log but I am not Steve Thayer the author from the Twin Cities area who is famous for novels such as Saint Mudd and The Weatherman. Although, I am Steve Thayer the author from the Twin Cities area soon to be famous for Along For The Ride. So…wait a minute…now I am getting confused….
Let me put it another way. I did not write Saint Mudd or The Weatherman but I read them both and I highly recommend them.
So here is my web log. My friend Amy told me I could not call it a blog so I will call it a diary without one of those tiny little locks on it to keep it safe from intruders. If you are reading this, you are an intruder, but rest assured a very welcomed intruder even if a most unexpected one at that! Please come back and intrude at your every convenience.
I have been thinking about blogging (sorry Amy) for a long time and I am not really sure why. I am not an expert on a particular subject. I will not dazzle you with facts and figures on how to accomplish a useful task, I will not bring you the latest trends in your favorite hobby and I will not offer you a recipe of the week. It is unlikely your visit to this site will find me standing on a political pulpit nor will you find me analyzing the latest breaking news.
I will probably pen a posting or two about Cancer as it has very recently intruded on my life through close family members being diagnosed. I will probably talk about bicycling as well which is my greatest passion at this time in my life.
I love music; mostly Jazz but I would not consider myself an expert on the subject. I know I like to listen to it, I know I have missed Miles Davis since his death in 1991 and I am grateful to the people in my life that influenced me in this area.
I like to read so I may offer a book report or two and I am sure I will think of other things as time goes on. Although I hope this does not end up being as pointless as a Seinfeld episode (I loved that show!) I do think it will be more on the random side when it comes to topics.
Are you curious about the title? Me too.
“Along For The Ride” carries many connotations for me.
When I ride my bike I do some of my best and clearest thinking. I expect to not only write about biking but to write about the things I am thinking about when I am literally “Along For The Ride.”
Considering I expect this to evolve and take shape over time it is also kind of an “Along For The Ride” experiment.
If you choose to read this you are in effect choosing to be “Along For The Ride.”
Sometimes, "Along For The Ride" is just how I feel about life.
I think there are more, but I cannot remember them right now.
I guess, I am as curious as anybody (actually probably more curious than anybody) as to what this will be and if it will last. I can only hope some of my passions will come out in words here on these virtual pages and that you will find them to be an interesting part of your day. If anything, I will at least try to inject some humor from time to time and make you laugh.
Gotta Go Now.
